Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is the application of measurement techniques in order to identify damage and irregularities in materials.

OES provide a broad range of Non-Destructive Testing as a stand-alone service or as part of other inspections requirements, including, but certainly not limited to:

Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)

MPI is used for the detection of surface and near-surface flaws in ferromagnetic materials and is primarily used for crack detection.

Eddy Current

Eddy current testing uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to detect flaws in conductive materials and can be used over painted surfaces eliminating the need for paint removal and surface preparation.

Radiography Testing

Industrial radiography is a modality of non-destructive testing that uses ionizing radiation to   inspect materials and components with the objective of locating and quantifying defects and degradation in material properties that would lead to the failure of engineering structures. It plays an important role in the science and technology needed to ensure product quality and reliability.

Various forms of Ultrasonic Testing; e.g 3.1, 3.2.

Ultrasonic Testing uses beams of mechanical waves (vibrations) of short wavelength and high-frequency.  UT detects internal, hidden discontinuities that may be deep below the surface.

Phased Array

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) is an inspection technique designed to incorporate beam technology to detect complex geometries & sizing defects.

Ultrasonic Thickness Gauging

Uses Ultrasonic pulse-echo to test the time of travel to a reflector and this provides the ability to provide a measurement of thickness.

Dye Penetration

Dye penetrant is drawn into the surface-breaking crack and excess surface penetrant is then removed; a developer (typically a dry powder) is then applied to the surface, to draw out the penetrant in the crack and produce a surface indication.

Metallurgic Field work

OES offering Metallurgic Field Investigations, performing out different type of Non Destructive Material Field Investigation. That means that items and assets don’t have to be cut in pieces to create test samples, which is normal routine in a Destructive Testing Laboratory. And our unique services can be performed in field or at customer premises, and the techniques are dispirited as below:

       Re-identification of drilling equipment

Requalification and recertification of existing equipment both offshore and onshore, meaning we   RE-INDENTIFY objects lacking of original material certificates and documentation and our test methods are normally performed according to DNVGL-RP-E101, Recertification of well control equipment. Materials used for drilling and well control equipment used in oil and gas industry needs to be verified and recertified at least every 5th year in according to applicable and recognized codes and standards. The recertification includes Non Destructive verification of chemical composition, hardness and microstructure of material.

Positive Material Identification:

PMI is a fast and non-destructive testing (NDT) method for verifying the chemical composition of metals and alloys.

Chemical Analysis:

Chemical analysis of engineering materials is performed to determine the type and quantity of various elements; the type and quantity of each element (chemical composition) in a material decides the material grades and it applications

Replica/Microstructure Analysis:

Nondestructive material examination by the means of replica technique is a metallographic method which is based upon the examination of the microstructure of the surface of the metal.

Metallographic Examinations:

Metallographic examination is the preparation of specimens for microscopic examination and the study of microstructures in relation to the physical and mechanical properties of a particular material.

Hardness Testing:

Hardness tests are extensively used to characterize a certain material and to identify if it is appropriate for its intended purpose, categorized as:

  • Rockwell Hardness Testing
  • Brinell Hardness Testing
  • Knoop Hardness Testing
  • Vickers Hardness Testing
